From the Mouths of Babes

My mom shared a story in church last night that was very sweet. My little sister Alisia is in a self-contained classroom. For those of you who don't know what that means... she is in a classroom where her curriculum is completely adapted to her own particular needs. She is not mentally slow, she is just very behind because she is deaf. The other kids in her classroom ARE mentally retarded or have some kind of behavior disorder. As you can imagine, it is difficult to think of her, a smart and normally developing little girl, in a room with kids who are slow and have behavior issues.
Mom was trying to find a way that she could sit with Ana, her other sisiter, and Ana's friends at lunch time-- that way she could be with "normal" kids. Mom was pretty frustrated at the hoops she had to go through, so she checked with Alisia to see what she wanted to do.
"Do you want to sit with Ana and her friends at lunch???"
"No... my friend Zoey needs help." Zoey is in a wheel chair.
